Detail. I like details, but I tend to get caught in it. By getting into the minute details of a place exclusively, it is impossible to tell where on earth it really is. I chose to shoot subjects which, despite not unique to the place, is enough to tell where they belong, at least as a collection. Yet shooting them with a macro lens at 1:1 life-size. After the purchase of a digital snapshot camera, I found myself thinking less and less when taking pictures. Shooting this project on film reminded me how much more thought should take place before I release the shutter. As a bonus, I hereby pronounce a challenge to 'snapshot culture' – the general lack of thought in our consumerist world, a v-sign to the trivial and obvious; embracing the abstract. *All of the 36 shots were from a single roll of Kodak Portra 160VC. No Photoshop retouching except removing dust on scans and balancing levels. --> |
